Susan Hance
Susan Hance enjoys language, medical science, people, and travel.
After earning a masters degree in Speech-Language and Auditory Pathology she began helping persons with communication difficulties. For over 20 years she has provided instruction for children and adults with developmental problems, strokes, brain injuries and other neurological disorders.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) she has worked in schools, hospitals, and private practice treating problems of speech and language, swallowing, memory and other cognitive deficits, voice, reading and writing.
It has been her privilege to work with Marines returning from Iraq, helping them recover from brain injuries.
She also works with private clients on foreign accent reduction. Business professionals and healthcare workers who are conducting daily work in North American English sometimes want to refine their pronunciation of the language. See www.susanhancecommunication.com for more information.
Hance holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), licensure from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Patholog and Audiology, and certification in the Compton Method of Pronouncing English as a Second Language (P-ESL). She is a member of the North Carolina Speech Hearing Language Association (NCSHLA) and the Corporate Speech Pathology Network (CORSPAN).
In addition to her work as an SLP, that understanding of language and communication led her to pursue writing professionally. Her works appear in magazines, newspapers, journals, books, and online sites.
Hance's travel experiences and interest in different cultures feed her attraction to travel writing. She has lived in antraveled to numerous places including North America, Europe and Asia.
